Hi! I just saw your comment over at Jocelyn's Wingin' it blog. Your blog makeover looks darling by the way! :)
ReplyDeleteIn your comment, you said that you had a rat terrier who was a great dog. I was curious what types of training/lifestyle you have given your dog to bring about good behavior- I ask because my parents also own a rat terrier, but it's the worst dog ever. It pees on my husbands foot, and jumps about ten feet in the air, continuously. It does a whole lot of obnoxious things, but I bet it could actually be a good dog. It seems super smart. What do you suggest with this particular breed that I could maybe pass along to my parents?

ReplyDeleteHonestly, our dog has been a great dog since day 1. Once she was house trained we had no issues whatsoever. We do put her in a crate when we are gone because she will get into stuff and chew up random things such as pencils or small toys. But, that is minimal to us. Also, she only does that if we are not home. She would never do it when we are around. She is a super smart dog. We haven't really done any training with her. I took her to a new vet this fall and before they picked her up they asked if she was a friendly dog. She has never bit anybody (and I have a 7 year old son who gets a little too aggressive with her a lot of the time) and that is what I told them. They said that terriers are either the best dog ever or one of the worst dogs ever. How old is your parent's dog? Have they had it since it was a puppy? Are you close to the dog? If you are, it could be showing a sign of dominance towards your husband. I have heard of dogs doing that.
Oh thanks so much!! I think it might be the worst dog type from what I am reading. LOL They have had it since it was a puppy and they don't live a very active lifestyle. The dog doesn't bite, but it never obeys either. It's a few years old and we are not very close to the dog since our kids don't enjoy being jumped at. My parents really baby their dog, so I doubt much can be done in the way of it's behavior. We just got our first dog recently so we are much more aware of their dog's issues. (not that we are at all experts! Ha!)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, thanks so much for the reply!

One thing I should have mentioned about rat terriers is that they like to run. We have enough land where our dog can get out and run wild. I think that helps a lot.
ReplyDeleteLooks awesome!!! I love it.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jocie!!
